Every Elf born in the forest is a member of the Elfin nation, and those that are not born within its boundaries are outcast and typically end up living in one of the human nations. It is of note that these Elves that are rejected from the Elfin nation are significantly different in terms of their mannerisms, speech, and way of thought. This may simply be the result of growing up in “civilized” society, instead of in the forest enclave. There are also a few aesthetic differences between the forestborn and city elves (as they are called). Chief among these differences is a slight green tint in the complexion of forestborn, as well as a shorter average height, more marked Elfin facial characteristics (prominent cheeks, pointed ears, etc), dark hair instead of pale, and a dark green birthmark present at the base of the neck. Multiple scholars agree that these differences can most likely be attributed to crossbreeding between elves and humans, with the forestborn being pureblood Elves.
